Cornet is one of those players I don’t yet get to see enough of. Beat Michaella Krajicek in straight sets today at AI. (62 61) She’s got a ways to go yet but could meet Schnyder or Vesnina in Round of 16. I first noticed Alizé when she won the Juniors at Roland Garros last year.

MARIA THE ONE AND ONLY

Oh my, Alizé only turned 18 in January. Yeah, she has a long time ahead of her. I wrote on another thread:

"Also, fresh French cutie Alizé Cornet dismissed Bammer 61 63 and so will play Vesnina in the next round. Now there will be a decorative match--on the off chance we get to see any of it."

Of course, "my" Elena is Dementieva. But you can't help noticing Vesnina, can you?

Alizée Cornet is very sexy but to my taste not very beautiful anyway she has a very nice tennis based on speed and counter pounching that I appreciate a lot and it's true that I also don't get to see enough of her... Vesnina is a real beauty canon but I just keep asking myself every scarce time I see her play - Is she really made to play tennis ?

Allo, Hugo!  Vesnina may photograph like a "mail order bride" but Shamil Tarpischev takes her very seriously--and she saved the Fed Cup semifinal for him last year. Not to take away from Petrova, but it was Vesnina who surprised Williams and Raymond in  the deciding doubles. In fact, she's shown more in doubles generally--so far. But she's still quite young.

Alizé is fresh outta the egg, which is why we've seen little. So far, only the All-England Club has been willing to show very much of a tournament. (Heck, Wimbledon Live even shows you Juniors. God forbid the Yanks would ever have a camera on a kid --even one they know is gonna knock your socks off next season.)

A year or two ago, Tennis Channel's site streamed some European clay and Roland Garros matches that no one was going to broadcast live, but I think they pretty quick got a memo from corporate that fans seeing enough to draw conclusions wasn't in the plan. Eurosport UK's occasional streaming was cut off as soon as Yahoo got their fingers into it. Seems like there are as many efforts to restrict our access as to expand it. 

So Vesnina came out without her game on & Cornet took the first set 61. Then Elena settled down to business and the second set was a good battle but Alizé pulled it out 75. Maybe that www.jacksonville.com got some vidclips. We'll see.

Cornet will play compatriot Razzano in the quarters.

I won't be surprise if Cornet will do well on RG..

PS: So, it'll be Cornet versus Cibulkova tomorrow. Another generation rises. That's another match I'd like to see but probably won't--unless myp2p.eu actually does come through with some kind of five hour stream. See, this is what I was talking about before. The system of coverage delivery is so screwed up that neither of these girls can get on camera unless she's a finalist? That's just wrong.

I saw Cornet in the semi against Cibulkova, but I've never heard of her before Amelia Island. She's only 18 so she has still time to improve and get more famous. She's sweet, but I still prefer Maria.

well,she's impressed me in AI....I think in the future we'll see her in many final and semis...man , she has a realy killing forehand like a bullet and moving very well on hte court plus a good fighter...so she's still young and has a lot of time to learning and improving her game.

Alizé beat Michaella Krajicek again, this time 63 36 64 and will next play Italian Sara Errani--then Sorana Cirstea of Roumania (Chaki having crashed & burned. ) Cornet's way to the Charleston quarters is open, if she can hang in there.

Keep Cornet's success this season in mind when "Wimbledon Live" may again permit us to see some of the Juniors who are coming up.

C'mon Alizé! Beat Szavay & make the semis--so I can see you on TV!
