The best fan of Maria Sharapova
The former U.S. figure-skating champion; Kwan reminded the children that hard work and persistence are a large part of the success of athletes like herself or Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin or former Wimbeldon champion Maria Sharapova — both Russian natives. "Keep on working hard, and your dreams — such a great thing — will come true," Kwan said "A lot of my dreams came true." Yuri Yudkin, 73, was Maria's first coach when she was 4-7. He said. "[Maria] was a very smart girl . . . I never had to repeat instructions twice to her." http://sochi2014.com/

Re: The best fan of Maria Sharapova
ved_mariafan:
Oh thanks, it was nice to listen Sharapova speaking Russian. She speaks very well.
The journalist asked to Sharapova why she lost this match against Dulko. She replied that in this match she started playing well late. She gave the chance to her opponent to feel strong. She recognizes that the serves of her opponent were very good. She also explained her defeat by the fact that she had a long layoff. She knew that would not be easy to play in tournaments. The level of tennis players always changes so you always need to fit. She is going to correct her mistakes in future matches and try to practice more. She hopes that she will be in good mental and physical form in other tournaments. She thinks that her next tournament will be in California in Stanford.
Maria Sharapova of Russia plays a forehand during the women's singles second round match against Gisela Dulko of Argentina on Day Three of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on June 24, 2009 in London, England.

I think that Sharapova needs her dad near her. I know that she is an adult but his presence will have a great effect on her tennis.
Yes you are right. His presence in her tournaments is very important. She will feel better mentally. A phone call is not enough. When you have someone near you who loves you truly, you always feel better and you win. He can also give her good advice. I would like to see him at the USA Open 2009. He is her best fan. She always won famous tournaments when he was present. Yuri please, come back to Masha.
Please Sharapova invite your Dad. He is a nice person. He will help you to feel stronger.
God bless Masha and Yuri.

Re: The best fan of Maria Sharapova
I agree. The commentariat's unremitting attack on "tennis parents" (particularly "tennis dads") has one purpose only--to secure coaching positions for outta work pros (Lansdorp, Cardon, etc) with whom the commentators are entangled socially & business-wise. Listening to that drivel, Nicole Vaidisova decided she had "outgrown" stepfather Ales Kodat--a leading figure in Czech tennis. Bad idea. Her career promptly went to hell.
Yuri & Maria did not yield to that pressure. (As you see, Michael Joyce is still there, doing a fine job for her.) In their case, I suspect a parental decision by Yuri that it was time for Masha to stand on her own. Well, I'm satisfied that she can do so, and suggest it may be time for their fully adult tennis relationship to commence.

Re: The best fan of Maria Sharapova
Sometimes her parents should attend to her important tournaments. An adult tennis career doesn't mean that she has to forget her family totally when she is on the court.
After all they are the ones who always support her.

Re: The best fans of Maria Sharapova
I think the more important thing we can do here, it is to support Sharapova and help her to improve her tennis. She is at a difficult period of her career. I know she has power will. I know she will improve her tennis. But nobody knows when she will play her best tennis again. This though makes me sad. Many tennis players had a crisis in their career for injuries. It often happens in Pro Sport. For example Tiger Wood has a health trouble with his knee. He had to stop playing for a while. He was crying the last time he won a tournament. His knee hurt him terribly. I said before that Pro Sport destroys easily the health of the best athletes. It is a very difficult job. You have to be very patient. You have to love your job. You have to work harder every day. You have to discipline yourself. In life only work makes people really happy. Many young tennis players who didn’t respect these conditions had to leave pro tennis forever. I am very sad for them when I see them today. They lost their chance for ever. But many others pro tennis players at the age of Sharapova are at the top of their career. I think she should follow them. I think it is a chance for her to play great tennis at her age. I don’t want her to miss this chance. As we all want her to be number one, we should help her. When she will be number one again I guess we will be very happy together. She had a long layoff, it is not easy for her to play at her top level at the moment. Her talent, her hard work and our moral support will help her. When you feel that your fans love you, worry about you you play better. I know she often needs her family at tournament to support her but we are her second family and our moral support and advice are very important.
GOD BLESS MARIA SHARAPOVA.

Re: The best fans of Maria Sharapova
I think that Sharapova should think about her training seriously and particularly her coaches. If it is necessary she should change her coaches. Her coaches are also responsible of her shoulder injury. Why don’t they control her health? I think they have destroyed her health.
Her coaches are also responsible of all her defeats in tournaments. If she doesn’t change her coaches they are going to destroy her totally.
I would like to take the example of Kuznetsova. Here a story of Kuznetsova.
Having beaten Olympic champion Elena Dementieva in Saturday’s semi-final, Kuznetsova finally broke her losing streak here having lost the last six finals she had reached on the WTA tour.
Kuznetsova changed both her coach and moved back to Moscow last year from Spain to train and the Stuttgart champion said the win here is proof she is on the right track.
“I changed so many things in the last year, pretty much everything you can change in your career, so this win is a good sign,” she said.
Safina has also changed her coach before reaching the top level.
Yes everybody knows that Sharapova has to work hard to reach the top level but she also needs good coaches.
Change We can believe in: Barack Obama

Re: The best fans of Maria Sharapova
No, I don't think she should hire a coach right now (she doesn't have a coach by the way, only Michael as her 'hitting partner'). Who is responsible for her injuries? She is, not anyone else. Every tennis player is resonponsible for taking care of themselves. And it's not like Maria's team is stupid that they don't know what the problem with her is, they do know.

Re: The best fans of Maria Sharapova
With respect, I gotta argue with you on some of this. The shoulder issue was not a coaching failure--instead, the extended failure to reach a correct diagnosis was a failure of her MEDICAL team, physios included. Somed of this may be hung on the sh!tty health care system olf the US, but such repeated failure by specific medical professionals is arguably rather suspicious. In any event, it's certainly not Michael Joyce's fault.
Kuzi's decision to return home is obviously correct for her. I'm not sure what that means in terms of coaching. The deal with Olga Morozova didn't work so well. Tarpischev's associate Larisa Savchenko seems to be helping, but Savchenko denies that what she doles is actually a coaching function.
Just thoughts. (Oh, I wouldn't go too orgasmic over Barack just yet. An old cold warrior for Vice President, a declared enemy of Russia as Secretary of State. Let's see how things go--the current detente may have all the staying power of a Hitler-Stalin pact. )

Well I don't think her injury was her coaches fault, I still blame the damn doctors!! And Michael Joyce (who I think is her coach now that Yuri is not around) is a great coach, I really like him a lot, I hope him and Maria work together for many years to come.
What the heck has Obama got to do with anything though? Anyways Hillary would have made a way better president, everyone will realise that soon enough, I'm sure.

Re: The best fans of Maria Sharapova
Yes you are right; it was the medical team’s fault. It was a very bad fault. But today, if her shoulder goes better, her results should be better. She should win. I know that she needs some time. But what I hate more is the fact that people think that when Sharapova loses a match, she is the only responsible for her defeat. It is wrong, you have several factors: you have the medical team, you have the training and strategy made by the coach according her physical conditions and her opponent, you have her health at the moment when she is playing. You have her mental and physical condition. It is the work of a team. And if this work doesn’t work well, we have to think about other coaches or people to help her to increase her level. We need a change in the team.
Sharapova should not work alone.
Why do I have some respect for Barack Obama like a person?
He is a person who earns his living by the sweat of his brow. He doesn’t come from a rich family; he worked hard to become famous in his job and his country. It is the change I am talking about. He remembers me the situation of Maria Sharapova & Alexander Ovechkin. Of course it is the same for my President Dmitri Medvedev and Vladimir Putin. They didn’t come from rich families. They are not spoiled people. Usually these people who reach the top of their career by the sweat of their brow are honest, talented and people respect them a lot. They work well for their country and they do a lot for their people. These people have changed their society positively; I don’t talk about politics.
Change We can believe in

Okay, I recognize Vlad & Dimitri, but who are the three "angels"? (Can't make out the Russian clearly on my not-so-great monitor.)
