Re: Year End Championships, Doha, Nov 4-9

Neither Elena nor Venus played at all well in the first set. Lenochka pulled it together to take the second but Venus smoothed out her act and remained more consistent through the third. Actually, it became a pretty good match--way better than the Vera/Ana thing, which was like wading through mud. During that comedy of errors, I went out for a smoke. Stick out tongue

    Everyone is tired.

Kuzi has been carefully watching the matches from the stands with her new coach, Soviet star Olga Morozova. Hopefully, Olga will be able to polish up Kuzi for tomorrow. I'd like to see a presentable contest, anyway. Hmm

    Thursday, November 6, 2008

Khalifa Tennis Complex (from 17.00hrs Doha) (14:00 GMT)
    1. Jankovic vs. Kuznetsova
    2. S.Williams vs. V.Williams (about 15:30 GMT)
    3. Safina vs. Dementieva

PS: Could anyone make out what Vera Z yelled at chair Kader Nouni when she got frustrated early in her third set with Ana? It seemed to shock the Balkan commentators I was hearing, but I couldn't understand her or them?

...Anyways, gooooooooooooooooo Elena!!!!  I reckon this might be a tight 3 setter!!

    It was tight indeed.

    anyway, I found this:

"Vera Zvonareva remained unbeaten in handing an ailing Ana Ivanovic her second defeat, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4. Zvonareva won on her third match point when Ivanovic, who took a medical timeout in the first set, hit a forehand into the net.

The French Open champion, who beat Zvonareva in the Linz final last month, said she had a sore throat and hadn’t eaten much in the past couple of days because of a virus.

“It was very hard for me to breathe,” Ivanovic said. “I was struggling.”

The ninth-ranked Zvonareva improved to 3-4 against Ivanovic."

I did not get any of the spicy stuff she said. All I got was about the umpire not allowing her to challenge a call cos she already hit the ball and she said something about players being allowed a reaction shot.

The Williams will gamble it so they can both pass. If Elena wanna get thru Safina MUST let her win. I see a JJ-Williams final coming up, probably SerenaCool Vera is THE outsider.

"A sore throat and hadn't eaten much" Indifferent  I don't even know how to react to that. Hmm  If she is feeling that bad then I think she should just pull out of the tournament, you know I am just thinking of her welfare here, I really don't want her to suffer anymore. Stick out tongue

I was really upset that Elena couldn't beat Venus yesterday, and I am getting a bad feeling that she is gonna lose to Serena, but this time I think it might be in straight sets. Sad

Good Luck JJ for her match against Kuznetsova today!!!!

Re: Year End Championships, Doha, Nov 4-9

So you think Serena is consistently better than Venus? Hmm We'll see. They're playing now--I glance at it from time to time but watching the sisters play is, to me, boring as watching mud dry. Stick out tongue

PS: Yeah, I would not foreclose Elena's chances. I've never seen Serena have to play again  immediately after a meltdown like today. LOL! Cool

Congrats to JJ, but I was also happy to see Kuzi put up a better fight today. Perhaps her work with Olga Morozova is beginning to show.

Big Congrats to Lenochka! Party!!! Dinara needs her vacation...

'like watching mud dry' hehehe so true!!! I tried watching them play but like you said it was so boring and I had to switch channels just to stay up cos I wanted to watch Lenochka's match. I eventually went to bed during the 2nd set, could not take it anymore. Good thing Elena won! Big Smile

I heard one of the commentators asked if JJ could forfeit her match against Vera if her injury is still bothering her, and Ana with her so-called 'virus'/dehydration thingy could also forfeit her match. Really, those two matches have no bearing besides who plays who in the semis so I guess the only competitive match we would be seeing would be Elena's.

Re: Year End Championships, Doha, Nov 4-9

Right. In the event of forfeit(s), there would still be three matches played tomorrow. No "walkovers" in the round robin. They'd bring in the alternates--first Radwanska then Petrova. But as they could win at most 1 match & 2 sets, it affects nothing as at least two others in each group already have more. Alternate matches would be "dead rubbers". Cool

(Eurosport has figure skating at 13:00 tomorrow--no replays. Coverage will begin with JJ & Vera at 14:00 GMT.)

OMG what?  Is JJ injured?  I didn't watch the match yesterday, so I don't know!!  Is she forfeiting the match?  What's happening?!!!

Well I was so happy yesterday cos Elena beat Safona!!!!!  Yayyyyyyy!!  Safona lost all her matches hehehe! Party!!!  Plus Serena had a proper meltdown!!!  Hahaha a 6-0 set, by her own sister hehehehe shameeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!  And JJ won too!! Big Smile

Well good luck JJ - I think she may have a 3 setter today but hopefully she will beat Vera and top the group!!!  Goooooooo JJ!!!

Surprise  Serena is out!!  OMG!!!  Yayyyyyy!!!

Well JJ lost to Vera, I knew it was gonna be a 3 setter, but I was hoping that JJ would win the match and top the group. Sad  Anyway, JJ played some awesome shots, but Vera just played a bit too good today.  I am getting a bad feeling that Vera may win this tourney Sad - she was just playing so well.  Oh well JJ is still there and she is into the semi's, so hopefully she can make it to the final!!!  Good Luck JJ!! Wink

What's bad? It's great to see Verochka coming on strong like this. Big Smile 'course, she'll have to get past Elena... Huh? Congrats to Lenochka. Jeez, 64 46 64 in 2:23. Well, Russian matches are often tough, and she's got another one tomorrow.

What's bad is that if Vera wins, that means that my JJ won't win!! Sad  Well Vera is my third choice to win the tourney - I would much prefer it if JJ or Elena could win and I would be really happy to see a JJ and Elena final!!!  That would be so great!!  What I would hate to happen would be for there to be a Venus/Vera final, so gooooooooooo JJ and Elena - I hope at least one of them can make it to the final!

And Congrats to Elena for her win over Petrova today! Party!!!

Well my predictions for tomorrow are: Elena to win in three tight sets and JJ also to win in three sets (I think the JJ match might be a bit up and down).
