    Re: Maria Sharapova

Discouragement is not Russian. Maria Sharapova has already won the AO in 2008. I will be very happy if Sharapova can play the Fed Cup.

1 Do not rest on your laurels
There is a rule for mountain climbers, you can go left or right, bypassing or straight. But your every step should be higher than the previous one... When you have achieved something in tennis your income seems to be good, but this is a trifle compared with what awaits you ahead. You need to grow as a player every day. And the ultimate goal is to climb to the peak of the mountain... even if you don't see the peak yet.

2 "Work hard" goes together like bread and butter
Without hard work you can't go too far just on a bare talent. Only by training you can lay the foundation, learn the useful things. Yoga is good to improve your tennis.

    3 Listen to your parents
These are the closest to you people. They won't give you a bad advice. No matter what you can lean on them.

    4 Be optimistic
Look to the future positively. You should always be optimistic! Masha knows how to play excellent tennis. She showed it to us.
She showed excellent results in Tokyo. Personally I am very happy about her success. Her ranking has increased (14).

Keep up the fighting spirit Maria. You are definitely our favourite tennis player at all tournaments!

    Let's go Mike&Maria!!!!!!! Let's go M&M!!! Let's go Russia!!!!!

The former U.S. figure-skating champion; Kwan reminded the children that hard work and persistence are a large part of the success of athletes like herself or Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin or former Wimbeldon champion Maria Sharapova — both Russian natives.
"Keep on working hard, and your dreams — such a great thing — will come true," Kwan said "A lot of my dreams came true."

Yuri Yudkin, 73, was Maria's first coach when she was 4-7. He said. "[Maria] was a very smart girl . . . I never had to repeat instructions twice to her."
