    Cool

Alizé defeats Szavay 75 64. Party!!! She will play Serena in the semis tomorrow. Now, If Elena can best Schnyder, it will not be possible for ESPN2 to pick a semifinal I don't want to see--and we can check out again whether they detest Russians or teens the worst. lol!

    Re: Alizé Cornet

At least I got to see Alizé. Damn! She is a little hottie, isn't she? Big Smile Not even to speak of a very good player. Yeah, she'll be coming on strong in Europe, I bet, even right now. Just the usual caveats to coach Pierre: don't spend too much time in the States; avoid like the plague anything the Witches are peddling. (I'd get emotional counseling from either of Patty Schnyder's husbands before I'd find a sports shrink through MJ Fernandez. Stick out tongue)

Anyhow, big congrats to Cornet. Girl done good here. Cool

    Re: Alizé Cornet

So now Alizé has a walkover due to Serena's withdrawal with "back injury". She'll play Chaki in Rome semis tomorrow. Oh my! Two clever little players. Cool

    Re: Alizé Cornet

Well, well... Huh? I gotta say that some part of this win was Chaki's loss--unforced errors, namely, netting too many returns. Nonetheless, Alizé sure held her nerve well, both when it appeared Chak had the upper hand and also at the critical turning points. More baseline, less duels at the net, but still some clever play. Cool

Might she be ready for JJ? Probably not but OTOH, if JJ gets to wandering off, shriekin' for the trainer, grubbing in her bag, puttin' stuff up her nose... Hmm LOL! You never know.

Congrats to Alizé and good luck!

    Re: Alizé Cornet

Well, Alizé didn't best JJ, but I hadn't expected she would at this time. She has yet to learn how to employ her precision game to consistently counter the power players. She will though. WTA sums up her season:

"Cornet has had an absolute breakthrough year so far, working her way from outside the Top 50 to inside the Top 30 as of the new rankings, mostly as a result of her impressive results on clay. Having never made it past the quarterfinals of any event on the Tour, she reached the final of Acapulco in February, back-to-back semifinals at Amelia Island and Charleston last month, and now another final - her first at a Tier I - here in Italy. She is now lined up for a seed at her home Grand Slam, Roland Garros."

At the very least, I suspect this is a new French number one in the making. Maybe more than that.

    Allez, Alizé! Cool
